Pulmonary Rehab at Medicine in Motion
Cardiopulmonary rehab is tailored for patients who have had previous cardiac history, respiratory conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) (COPD) and emphysema or have high cardiac risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or waist circumference. This class is also suitable for those who experience shortness of breath during physical activity.
This class involves a combination of safe aerobic exercises to improve cardiorespiratory fitness and resistance and flexibility training to improve posture and breathing techniques. Education is also provided on how to manage breathlessness and reduce the fear of becoming ‘puffed out’ during physical activity.
Patients work at their own pace and follow their own individualised regime, making the class suitable for varying fitness levels. The primary benefit of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is to improve exercise tolerance which ultimately will make activities of daily living easier, such as showering, hanging out the washing, gardening or walking!
